Wallingford Head was originally an unofficial Christmas head race run at Wallingford Rowing Club. With very few head races until March that included an eights category, it was decided to add it to the BR calendar as an annual event where eights, as well as other boats, could have a good head race before Christmas.
The first event in 1995 hosted a healthy and promising 97 crews and entry numbers have increased every year since then.
Despite the winter weather at times the event has gone ahead most years with entries restricted to ensure the safety of competitors.
Thanks to everyone who competes and also to all the volunteers; we look forward to seeing you all again this year at the Wallingford Head of the River.
